Wenvoe Castle, Georgian castle in Vale of Glamorgan, Wales.
Wenvoe Castle is a Georgian mansion near a village in southern Wales set within extensive landscaped grounds. Of the original building, only one wing and stable structures remain standing today.
A wealthy coal merchant from Yorkshire commissioned a renowned Scottish architect in 1776 to build this residence. A major fire in 1910 destroyed much of the structure and fundamentally altered the estate.
The site once served as a residence for local gentry, and its grounds still reflect the taste and wealth of those who lived here. Visitors can walk through gardens that maintain the character of a country estate.
The grounds now host a golf club based in one of the preserved pavilions. Visitors should be aware that parts of the estate remain private and access may be limited.
The architect who designed this estate was one of the most influential builders of his time in Britain and his work shaped the style of many country houses. His approach to design balanced beauty with practical function in ways that were ahead of his era.
