Dyffryn Gardens, Garden in Vale of Glamorgan, Wales
Dyffryn Gardens is a 55-acre property featuring multiple distinct garden sections including formal lawns, working vegetable areas, and a collection of trees from different regions. The various spaces are individually designed and connected by paths that encourage exploration throughout the grounds.
A wealthy industrialist founded these gardens in the late 1800s, engaging a renowned landscape designer to create the master plan. The property was gradually expanded and developed into a major garden project of that era.
The gardens display plants from around the world, with sections arranged to showcase species from different climates and regions. You can see how these collections are organized throughout the space and cared for by the grounds team.
The grounds are easy to explore on foot, with paths suitable for various walking abilities and energy levels. Plan to spend a few hours here and dress appropriately for the weather, as you'll be outside for much of your visit.
Some of the oldest trees here grew from seeds brought back by a plant collector who traveled to China, and these specimens have thrived for generations. You'll find these special trees scattered throughout the grounds, showing how international plant collections were established here.
