Wolterton Hall, Georgian country house in Wickmere, England.
Wolterton Hall is a three-story neoclassical mansion with symmetrical facades, tall windows, and ornate wood details throughout. The rectangular building was completed in 1742 and represents the formal style of early Georgian architecture.
Architect Thomas Ripley designed the house for Horatio Walpole, brother of Britain's first Prime Minister. The design incorporated elements from the previous manor house that stood on the site.
The entrance hall's four mahogany doors remind visitors of royal connections and add grandeur to the space. These doors reflect the family's standing at court during the 18th century.
The house is available for private events and can only be visited at certain times during the year. It is best to check opening dates in advance before planning your visit.
The 500-hectare estate includes a lake that was created by garden designer Charles Bridgeman in 1725. This lake predates the current building and shows how the landscape was carefully planned before the hall was constructed.
