Worthing United F.C., association football club in England
Worthing United F.C. is a football club in the town of Worthing in West Sussex, England. The team plays at the Robert Albon Memorial Ground on Lyons Way, which features a covered stand with about 120 seats, grass banks at both ends, and floodlights for evening matches.
The club was formed in 1988 when two local teams, Wigmore Athletic and Southdown F.C., merged together. In 2014-15, Worthing United won both the league title and the cup, achieving their highest divisional status for the first time.
The team's nickname 'The Mavericks' reflects the spirit of togetherness that binds players and supporters. On match days, families and friends from the area gather to share a sense of camaraderie that runs deep in the local community.
The ground is located in a quiet residential area and is best visited on match days when the atmosphere is most lively. The venue is relatively easy to navigate and offers good views of the pitch from both the grass banks and the stand.
Two young players of the club, Matthew Grimstone and Jacob Schilt, died in a plane crash near Shoreham Airport in 2015. The team later erected a memorial stand with their names, which symbolizes the deep connection between the club and the community.
