Yarlside, Mountain summit in Howgill Fells, England
Yarlside is a 639 meter summit in the Howgill Fells featuring steep grass slopes that gradually rise to an open plateau. The peak sits in the eastern part of this mountain range, offering views across the surrounding valleys and neighboring hills.
The mountain has developed naturally over centuries with no signs of human settlement or built structures on its slopes. The surrounding region has long served as pastureland for sheep, which shaped the open grassland visible today.
The peak forms part of the Dales 30 collection, attracting mountain climbers who seek to complete this recognized group of summits.
The ascent requires good navigation skills as there are no marked paths, and you will need to find your way across open terrain. Parking is available nearest in the town of Sedbergh, which serves as the starting point for the walk.
On clear days visitors can spot two other well-known peaks from here: Wild Boar Fell and the mountains of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. These expansive sight lines make the summit a rewarding vantage point for gazing across multiple mountain ranges.
