National Westminster Bank, Liverpool
National Westminster Bank, Liverpool, Grade II* listed bank building in Castle Street, Liverpool, England
The National Westminster Bank is a Grade II* listed bank building on Castle Street in Liverpool featuring a granite facade with yellow and grey stone elements. The four-story structure showcases ornamental terracotta window dressings and reflects early 20th-century banking architecture.
The building was constructed between 1899 and 1902 for Parr's Bank and served as a banking facility for over one hundred years. National Westminster Bank vacated the premises in October 2017, marking the end of its use as a financial institution.
The circular interior layout incorporates a central round lantern illuminating radiating coffered panels, with eight triple pilasters made from striped green marble.
The building stands on Castle Street in central Liverpool and is easily accessible on foot. Note that this is a protected structure visible from the street, and ongoing redevelopment plans may affect public access to the interior in coming months.
The building's interior features a distinctive circular layout with a central lantern casting light on radiating coffered panels in an unusual spatial arrangement. Eight triple pilasters of striped green marble emphasize this sophisticated internal design, creating an uncommon banking hall configuration.
