Valley Bridge, Victorian road bridge in Scarborough, England.
Valley Bridge is a wrought-iron road bridge crossing Ramsdale Valley and connecting Scarborough with its southern coastal areas. The structure carries the A165 road today and provides pedestrians a direct route between downtown and South Bay beach.
The structure was originally built in York in 1865 as Lendal Bridge before being relocated to Scarborough following a collapse. This relocation allowed the town to support its expansion across the valley.
The bridge became a symbol of Scarborough's growth as a seaside resort during the 1800s, marking the town's expansion beyond its original center. Locals and visitors cross it daily to move between the downtown area and the beach.
The bridge is accessible daily for both vehicles and pedestrians and provides access to both sides of the valley. It is worth exploring on foot to fully appreciate the views across the valley and toward the coast.
Many of the original 19th-century wrought-iron components have survived multiple restorations throughout the years. This durability demonstrates the quality of Victorian craftsmanship that remains visible in the structure today.
