Milestones Living History Museum, Local history museum in Basingstoke, United Kingdom.
Milestones Living History Museum is a local history museum in Basingstoke that reconstructs streetscapes from Victorian times and the 1930s. The buildings and shops display everyday life from these periods with period-accurate fixtures and furnishings.
The museum opened in 2000 as a partnership between Hampshire County Council and Basingstoke Borough Council. This launch created a new way for the community to experience and understand the region's recent past.
The collection includes Thornycroft vehicles and Taskers machinery, which show how local industry shaped Hampshire's past. Walking through these exhibits, visitors see how engineering crafts powered the region's growth.
The museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday, giving visitors time to explore the reconstructed streets and buildings at a relaxed pace. Wear good shoes since much of the site is outdoors and can become muddy or slippery in wet weather.
Within the site stands the Baverstock Arms, a reconstructed Victorian public house where visitors can actually purchase and enjoy real drinks. This combination of museum tour and functioning pub makes for an unusual way to step back in time.
