MoD Corsham, Military complex in Corsham, England.
MoD Corsham is a military complex in Corsham, England, that covers hundreds of acres and includes more than one hundred buildings as well as a large underground network carved into former quarries. The structure links above-ground facilities with miles of tunnels cut into the Bath stone, now used as a data center and communications hub.
During the Second World War the site served as an underground factory for aircraft components and simultaneously as a massive ammunition depot. In the postwar period the location transformed into a center for government communications and emergency planning.
The underground tunnels contain Grade II listed murals painted by artist Olga Lehmann during the 1940s military operations.
The site is not open to the public and operates as an active military base with security zones. Those walking nearby will see only fences and guards at the entrances.
The tunnels contain murals from the nineteen forties painted by an artist during wartime operations. These underground artworks are now protected historical features.
