Arnage Castle, 16th-century tower house in Ellon, Scotland.
Arnage Castle is a 16th-century tower house with three main stories and an additional floor in the stair wing, built in a Z-shaped plan. The structure features several shot holes that emphasize its original defensive purpose.
The Cheyne family built this tower after acquiring the land through marriage in the late 14th century. A century later, the castle passed to John Sibbald in 1643.
The castle shows features of Scottish defensive architecture with its original ground-floor entrance. The rooms give a sense of life in northeast Scotland during the early modern period.
The tower stands on elevated ground and is visible from several directions, making it easy to orient yourself on site. Modern stairs inside allow access to all levels, while the original rooms remain intact in their structure.
The building underwent comprehensive restoration and remains preserved cultural property today. A noted economist spent part of his childhood here before later residents used it as a residence.
