St Davids Bishops Palace
St Davids Bishops Palace, Episcopal palace ruins near St Davids Cathedral, Wales
St Davids Bishops Palace are the remains of a stone building with thick walls and arched elements arranged around an inner courtyard. The visible foundations and standing walls show the original layout of this grand episcopal residence.
Construction began in the 1280s under Bishop Thomas Bek and continued with major expansions during the 1330s and 1340s. These additions transformed it into one of the most impressive ecclesiastical buildings of its time.
The palace served as a center where bishops welcomed guests and conducted their religious duties for the region. Walking through the ruins, you can see how important religious leaders lived during medieval times.
The site is easy to reach and sits right beside the cathedral in a quiet part of town. Information boards on site help explain the layout and what you are looking at as you walk around.
The remaining walls still display decorative arcaded galleries that showcase medieval craftsmanship. These architectural details reveal how much care bishops invested in designing their living spaces.
