St Davids Bishops Palace, Episcopal palace ruins near St Davids Cathedral, Wales

The stone walls and arches of the palace form a rectangular structure with three ranges around an inner courtyard surrounded by defensive fortifications.

Bishop Thomas Bek initiated the palace construction in the 1280s, while Bishop Henry de Gower completed substantial additions between 1328 and 1347.

The palace functioned as both residence and administrative center, where bishops held feasts, dispensed justice, and received pilgrims from across medieval Europe.

The palace opens daily from March through October between 9:30 and 17:00, with extended hours in summer and reduced hours from November to February.

The palace features a distinctive arcaded parapet along its walls, representing one of the finest examples of medieval ecclesiastical architecture in Wales.
