The Maidens lighthouses, Two offshore lighthouses in County Antrim, Northern Ireland
The Maidens consist of two towers situated on separate rocks in the North Channel, with the East Tower rising 94 feet and the West Tower reaching 84 feet.
The Ballast Board constructed both lighthouses in 1829 following requests from local merchants and Admiral Benjamin Hallowell Carew to improve maritime navigation in the area.
The lighthouses represented a complete maritime community, with keepers and their families residing year-round on the isolated rocks until the early twentieth century.
The East Tower remains operational and emits three white flashes every 15 seconds, maintaining a visibility range of 23 nautical miles across the North Channel.
The West Tower ceased operations in 1903, while the East Tower transitioned to automated control in 1977, marking the end of manual lighthouse keeping at the site.
