Dacres Wood, Nature reserve in Forest Hill, London Borough of Lewisham, Great Britain.
Dacres Wood is a nature reserve in Forest Hill covering roughly 2.5 hectares of secondary woodland. The site contains Turkey Oaks and Horse Chestnut trees alongside several ponds that provide habitat for different animal species.
The land was once part of the Croydon Canal before being converted into a Victorian house garden over time. It eventually gained protection as a nature reserve during the modern period.
The Friends of Dacres Wood group organizes educational activities and community events to promote environmental awareness among local residents.
The reserve can be reached through an entrance on Dacres Road where it meets Silverdale Street. Access is limited to monthly open days when the site welcomes visitors.
The site is one of only three locations in London where purple hairstreak butterflies can be found, living in oak tree canopies. These rare insects draw the attention of wildlife watchers.
