Dobson's Windmill, Grade I listed windmill in Burgh Le Marsh, England.
Dobson's Windmill is a five-story brick tower with five sails that rotate clockwise to power three sets of grinding stones. The building contains separate work areas for processing wheat and corn.
The mill was designed in the early 1800s by millwright Sam Oxley and completed around 1844. It operated commercially until the 1960s under the management of the Dobson family.
The mill shows how grain was processed and what role this work held for people in the area. Visitors can see today how traditional milling equipment functioned and how important such buildings were to daily life.
The building is maintained by the Burgh Le Marsh Heritage Group and was previously open for visits. Restoration work is currently underway, so it is advisable to check ahead before planning a visit.
The building originally had a special ground-floor opening that housed a steam traction engine. This engine powered additional grinding stones to increase production capacity during calm weather.
