The Roman Church of Our Lady, Help of Christians and St Denis stands between Priory Road and St Margaret's Road with Gothic Revival architecture.
The church construction began in 1864 when Dominican nuns arrived at Southampton Villa following an invitation from Bishop William Vaughan of Plymouth.
Mr. Potts Chatto funded the church construction in 1867 as an expression of gratitude after his son Denis recovered from illness.
The church holds regular services with Mass celebrations on Saturdays at 6:00 PM and Sundays at 10:00 AM under the guidance of Canon Michael Lock.
The adjacent convent, constructed in 1871, included educational facilities for 200 children, marking the beginning of structured Catholic education in the area.
