Bygones, Victorian era museum in St Marychurch, Torquay, England.
Bygones is a three-floor museum in St Marychurch, Torquay, displaying over 2000 genuine artifacts across multiple exhibits. The collection includes an authentic Victorian street with a blacksmith forge and sweetshop.
Founded in 1987 by the Cuming family, the museum originated from their collection of railway memorabilia and the acquisition of a 27-ton railway tank engine. This founding collection formed the core of the exhibitions.
The exhibition features detailed reconstructions of Victorian domestic spaces, including a nursery, kitchen, and parlor that showcase daily life from that period. Visitors can see how people lived, cooked, and spent their leisure time during that era.
The building includes an on-site cafe serving drinks, snacks, sandwiches, and homemade cakes, plus a shop offering traditional toys and war memorabilia. The facility is easy to navigate across its three floors with good access throughout.
Visitors can explore a reconstructed World War I trench and inspect a Boer War Christmas tin from 1900 that retains its original contents. These rare artifacts offer a direct glimpse into life during those historical conflicts.
