Babbacombe Model Village, Miniature park in Torquay, England.
Babbacombe Model Village is a miniature park in the seaside area of Babbacombe, near Torquay in Devon, England, featuring hundreds of handcrafted buildings and tiny figures set within planted gardens covering about 4 acres (1.6 hectares). The site has both outdoor landscaped sections and a walk-through indoor area with animated displays.
Tom and Ruth Dobbins opened the village in 1963, drawing on their experience from a similar project they had built in Southport in 1957. Over the following decades the park grew steadily, with new sections added to the original layout.
The miniatures show typical British towns, villages, and everyday scenes that many visitors recognize from real life. Humor is woven into many of the small displays, with tiny figures caught in comic situations that reward a closer look.
The park is open year-round and has a free mini-golf course, a coffee shop, and a gift store on site. Evening light displays run during certain seasons, so it is worth checking ahead if you plan to visit after dark.
The indoor Mythical Kingdom section features a mechanical dragon that releases real fire at regular intervals, which tends to catch visitors off guard. This fantasy area was added to give the park a dimension that goes beyond the typical miniature village format.
