Church of St Mary Magdalene

The Church of St Mary Magdalene is a medieval building that rises above the village with a distinctive west tower topped by a spire. Inside, the structure includes a nave with a wide north aisle and a chancel, with the layout showing changes from renovations over the centuries.

The building began as a chapel in the 13th century and gradually developed into a parish church. Major restructuring occurred in 1790 when the arcade connecting the nave and north aisle was removed, fundamentally changing how the interior space felt and functioned.

The churchyard draws visitors who come to pay respects at the graves of musician Nick Drake and motorcyclist Mike Hailwood, two figures whose lives touched many people. This quiet burial ground has become a destination for fans and those interested in the lives these individuals led.
