Dudmaston Hall, English country house in Quatt Malvern, Great Britain.
Dudmaston Hall is a late 17th-century country house in Quatt Malvern, Shropshire, now managed as a historic house museum with a modern art collection. The estate grounds include formal gardens, open parkland, woodland, and a lake that runs down toward the Severn Valley.
The Wolryche family came to own the estate in 1403 through a marriage and held it for several centuries before it passed to the Labouchere family in 1952. The current building dates mostly from the late 17th century, replacing an earlier house on the same land.
The rooms hold modern art alongside old family portraits and period furniture, so visitors move between centuries within a single space. Works by Spanish painters and sculptors from the mid-20th century hang on walls that have been part of a family home for generations.
The property is run by the National Trust, which organizes tours, seasonal events, and exhibitions across the year. It is worth checking ahead, as access to some rooms or areas of the grounds can vary by season.
Charles Babbage, known for his early work on computing machines, installed an advanced central heating system in the house during his visits in the 1800s. Parts of this system are still visible today, making it one of the more unexpected things to spot on a visit.
