Ca d'Oro Building, Category A listed building in Glasgow, United Kingdom
The Ca d'Oro Building is a listed structure in Glasgow featuring five prominent arches spanning Gordon Street. The upper stories display ornamental cast iron arcades framed by tall pilasters, creating a refined vertical rhythm along the facade.
Built in 1872 by architect John Honeyman, the structure originally operated as a furniture warehouse for F and J Smith. Following a major fire in 1987, it was extensively restored and reconfigured with new retail spaces inside.
The building draws from Venetian Renaissance design, and today visitors can appreciate its ornate facades and the way the arches frame views along the street. The craftsmanship is visible in every section, reflecting how 19th-century merchants wanted to display their status through architecture.
The building sits at the corner of Union Street and Gordon Street, very close to Glasgow Central train station. This central location makes it easily accessible by foot from most of the city center and nearby attractions.
The interior was completely redesigned after the 1987 fire and now features a multi-story atrium that is quite different from the original warehouse layout. This hidden central space with its retail levels creates an unexpected contrast with the classical exterior.
