Twyford Waterworks

The Edwardian pumping station contains five lime kilns, narrow gauge railways, and original equipment for water softening and distribution processes.
Built in 1898 for South Hampshire Water Company, the facility expanded in 1913 with a Hathorn Davey triple expansion engine capable of pumping 11 megalitres daily.
Twyford Waterworks Trust volunteers maintain and operate the site, preserving industrial engineering knowledge through demonstrations and educational programs.
The waterworks opens on selected Sundays from May to October, offering guided tours, tea rooms, and accessible facilities for visitors with reduced mobility.
The site features a water-powered narrow gauge incline railway system from 1903 that transported coal and chalk throughout the facility.
