Friday Hill House, Grade II listed manor house in Chingford, England
Friday Hill House at 7 Simmons Lane is a manor house featuring architectural design by Lewis Vulliamy with high ceilings and multiple living spaces across two floors. The structure has since been divided into seven residential flats while retaining its original character throughout.
Built in 1839 for Robert Boothby Heathcote, the house replaced an earlier structure that had stood on the site. The Heathcote family maintained their residence here for over a century until 1940.
The grounds contain a notable London Plane tree that stands among the Great Trees of London, serving as a living link to the property's long occupation.
The building is now divided into private residential flats and not open to the public. The exterior can be viewed from Simmons Lane, where you can also appreciate the mature trees on the grounds.
The area takes its name from John Friday, who lived here in 1467, giving the hill a direct link to a medieval resident. This connection to a specific person from the 15th century adds a personal dimension to the location's past.
