Rose Cottage, Ruthin

Rose Cottage demonstrates medieval architecture with box framing, wattle and daub walls constructed on a stone plinth, and a traditional thatched roof.

The building underwent significant changes in the early 17th century when residents added a timber-framed chimney breast to replace the original open hearth system.

The preserved dais partition and arched doorways within the cottage reveal living arrangements and social hierarchies of medieval Welsh households.

The property stands at 69.5 meters elevation beside the main road from Mold to Ruthin, though it remains closed to public access.

Original painted plaster designs and mortices of three-light timber-mullioned windows emerged during restoration work completed around the year 2000.
