Sacred Heart Church stands on Linthorpe Road with its Romanesque Revival architecture featuring rounded arches and robust structural elements throughout the building.
The church opened in 1932 after Belgian architect Jules Coomans designed it, drawing inspiration from St Andrew's Abbey in Bruges for its architectural plan.
The interior contains stained glass windows crafted by the Harry Clarke studio of Dublin in 1953 and mosaics created by Ludwig Oppenheimer from Manchester.
The church holds Sunday masses at 9:30 AM and 6:00 PM, with additional services on Monday, Friday, and Saturday mornings for the local congregation.
Councillor Frank Finn financed the construction in memory of his brother, Father William Finn, who served as a World War I chaplain.
