Porthkerry Viaduct, Railway viaduct in Rhoose, Wales.
This Grade II listed stone structure spans the Porthkerry Valley with sixteen elegant arches reaching heights of 110 feet above the valley floor.
Built in 1897 by engineers James and William Szlumper after construction delays caused by ground settlement issues at several piers requiring reconstruction.
The viaduct appears in watercolour paintings by artist Thomas Frederick Worrall who lived in Barry from 1913 and captured its architectural beauty.
Currently serves passenger trains traveling between Cardiff, Cardiff Airport, and Bridgend while providing access to walking trails within Porthkerry Park for visitors.
Despite its impressive height and sixteen arches, the structure experienced significant subsidence problems shortly after opening that required three years of repairs.
