The cafe opened in 2014, founded by twin brothers who wanted to build a space around their shared passion for breakfast cereals. It launched at a time when Brick Lane was changing fast, with chain stores and higher-end businesses moving into the area.
The cafe sits on Brick Lane, a street long known for its mix of immigrant cultures and independent shops. Visitors often spend time looking at the retro toys and old advertising posters on the walls, which bring back childhood memories tied to familiar cereal boxes.
The café is very small and queues form outside on weekends and busy days, so going on a weekday morning gives you the best chance of getting a seat. Seating is limited, and some visitors choose to take their bowl to go and eat nearby rather than wait.
Shortly after opening, activists from the group Class War gathered outside wearing masks and carrying torches to protest the changes happening in the neighborhood. The owners filmed the protest from inside and shared the footage online, which brought the small spot worldwide attention it had not expected.
