Church of St Cyril of Turau and All the Patron Saints of the Belarusian People
Church of St Cyril of Turau and All the Patron Saints of the Belarusian People, Greek Catholic church in Woodside Park, London, United Kingdom
The Church of St Cyril of Turau is a wooden structure in London's Woodside Park with traditional Belarusian architectural features and contemporary glass elements. The building blends historic Byzantine church design with modern materials to create a distinctive place of worship.
This house of worship opened in 2017 and stands as the first wooden religious building built in London since the Great Fire of 1666. This return to wooden construction after more than 350 years marks a notable moment in the city's religious history.
This house of worship brings together the Belarusian Byzantine Catholic community in Britain and keeps their religious practices alive. It represents their spiritual identity while living far from home.
The building is located in Marian House on Holden Avenue and is easy to reach by public transport. Access is level, and the venue hosts regular services and cultural events throughout the week and on weekends.
The building was constructed as a memorial to victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, with its architecture carrying symbolic meaning. The interior iconography and design subtly reference this historical event and its connection to Belarusian history.
