Forrest City is a town located on Crowley's Ridge in St. Francis County, Arkansas, serving as the county seat. The community sits at a major transportation junction where two important highways intersect, connecting it to larger cities in the region.

The town began in 1870 when the territorial government established it near a railroad construction site. Within a few years, the county relocated its main offices here, which helped the settlement grow into a proper town.

Workers found prehistoric animal bones during sewer construction in 1949, revealing that large creatures once roamed this area. This discovery hints at a completely different climate and landscape from long ago that covered what is now the town.
