Hernando County spans 589 square miles of diverse landscapes, featuring inland regions and access points to the Gulf Coast along western Florida.
The county, established in 1843 from parts of Alachua, Hillsborough, and Orange Counties, received its name from Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto.
The Hernando County Library System operates four locations throughout the region, earning recognition as Florida Library Association's Library of the Year in 2013.
The region connects to major transportation routes through US Highway 19 and Interstate 75, with local bus services provided by Hernando THE Bus.
The county houses the largest truck-to-truck Walmart Distribution Center in the United States within its Airport Industrial Park complex.
