Jasper County, Administrative county in southwestern Missouri, United States
Jasper County is an administrative division in southwestern Missouri that spans a large area intersected by Interstate 44. The county combines urban centers with rural landscapes and is home to over 120,000 residents.
The county was established in 1841 and named after William Jasper, a hero of the American Revolution. Carthage was designated as its administrative seat and remains important to the region today.
The region was home to the Osage people, who called themselves Ni-U-Kon-Ska and lived between the Missouri, Osage, and Arkansas rivers. Their presence shaped the land long before European settlement arrived.
The region is easily accessed via Interstate 44 and offers connections to various local and county services. Visitors should know that services and amenities vary depending on location within the area.
A devastating tornado struck the region in 2011, leaving a lasting impact on the community. This event continues to shape how residents approach weather safety today.
