Scott County is an administrative county in west-central Illinois with Winchester as its county seat. The area is bounded by the Illinois River on its western edge and contains several small communities spread throughout its territory.
The county was established in 1839 when it separated from Morgan County during Illinois territorial expansion. Its name came from Scott County in Kentucky, reflecting naming patterns of that era.
The county maintains several community centers in Winchester, Naples, Alsey, Bluffs, Exeter, Glasgow, and Manchester, where residents gather for local events.
Interstate 72, US Routes 36 and 67 connect the county to surrounding areas. These highways serve as main routes for traveling through and exploring the different communities in the region.
