Cuyahoga Falls, Industrial and residential city in Summit County, Ohio.
Cuyahoga Falls is a city in Summit County, northeastern Ohio, situated about two miles (three kilometers) north of Akron. The river that gives the place its name runs through the entire area, shaping the landscape with green spaces and former industrial sites along its banks.
William Wetmore founded the Manchester settlement here in 1812, harnessing river power for mills and sawmills. The city adopted its current name in 1836 when the township was formally organized and the first dams were expanded.
The downtown district features numerous local businesses, restaurants, and entertainment venues, connecting residential neighborhoods to commercial areas through a network of pedestrian paths.
Several entrances to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park lie within or just outside the city boundaries, providing access to trails and bike paths. The city is easily reachable by main roads from Akron and surrounding towns, with free parking available in most public areas.
In July 1940, a severe collision between a railcar and a freight train occurred here, claiming many lives and remaining the worst rail accident in the region. The site of the disaster lies not far from the riverbanks, where a small memorial stone recalls the event today.
