Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, Tudor Revival mansion in Akron, United States
Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens is a Tudor Revival estate with 65 rooms in Akron, Ohio, set on 70 acres of land. The complex includes several gardens, a greenhouse, and a carriage house arranged around the main residence.
The estate was built between 1912 and 1915 for F. A. Seiberling, co-founder of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Construction took place during a period when Akron rose as a center of the rubber industry and wealthy industrialists established residences outside the city.
The name comes from Old English, referring to the quarry that once occupied this site. The connection between the land's earlier purpose and its later transformation into an estate reflects the region's shift during the industrial era.
The mansion and gardens are open to visitors from April through December, with guided tours offered Tuesday through Sunday. The grounds require extended walking, so comfortable shoes are recommended, especially for exploring the outdoor areas.
The manor house contains a music and billiard room combination defined by heavy oak paneling and original built-in features from the construction period. This room arrangement was rare among American country estates of the era and reflects the personal tastes of the family who commissioned it.
