Glendale Cemetery, Historic cemetery from 1839 in Akron, United States.
Glendale Cemetery is a historic burial ground spanning 88 acres with curving paths, stone mausoleums, and monuments scattered throughout mature woodland. The expansive grounds are defined by towering trees that create shaded walks and give the property a settled, long-established character.
Founded in 1839, the cemetery became an important burial ground in the region. A memorial chapel built in 1876 honors soldiers from the Civil War, with names inscribed on its interior walls.
The grounds contain separate sections where Masons, Jewish residents, and military veterans have their own spaces to honor their dead. This arrangement shows how different communities shaped their own traditions within the cemetery.
The grounds are easy to explore on foot, with marked paths and open areas where you can walk freely. The office on site can help answer questions about navigation or direct you to specific sections within the property.
The property was once shaped by two natural lakes that were part of the landscape until the 19th century. They vanished when local development altered the underground water sources that fed them.
