Huntington Tower, Art Deco high-rise building in Akron, United States.
Huntington Tower is an Art Deco high-rise in downtown Akron, Ohio, rising about 330 feet (100 m) with 27 floors and a facade of white brick and terra cotta. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and stands as one of the taller structures along the city skyline.
The tower was built in 1931 on the site of the neo-Gothic Hamilton Building, which was demolished to make way for it. For several decades after its completion, it held the record as the tallest structure in Akron.
The lobby of the building features Tennessee marble throughout, giving the ground floor a formal and polished look that still draws attention today. Between 1940 and 1953, the ground floor also housed the studios of radio station WAKR, making the building a gathering point for local broadcasts.
The building sits in central Akron and is easy to spot from the street thanks to its tall rooftop mast. Entry through the lobby is straightforward, and eight elevators connect the floors inside.
A television mast on the roof brings the total height to about 137 meters, a feature that is easy to miss when looking at the building from street level. This mast was once used by WEAO, a local television station that broadcast signals across the region from this rooftop.
