The University of Bridgeport is a private institution in Connecticut that occupies 56 acres (23 hectares) along the shore of Long Island Sound. Seven residence halls and multiple academic buildings spread across the grounds with water views and green spaces between them.
The institution opened in 1927 as a junior college offering two-year programs and gained four-year status in 1947. It became a full university in 1951 and began adding graduate programs and new schools over the following decades.
Students from over 80 countries bring different perspectives to classrooms and common spaces across the campus each day. The waterfront setting becomes part of daily routines as many buildings offer views toward the sound and open green spaces face the shore.
The campus sits within walking distance of downtown Bridgeport and connects to public transit lines for regional access. Guided tours run regularly and allow visitors to walk through main areas and facilities across the grounds.
The Fones School of Dental Hygiene was the first of its kind in Connecticut when it opened in 1949 and has kept its accreditation continuously since 1953. The Arnold Bernhard Library Building houses collections on regional history and special archives with local documents spanning several centuries.
