Lyndon State College, public college in Vermont
Lyndon State College is a public university in Lyndonville, Vermont, located on a 195-acre rural campus. The campus features multiple residence halls, a dining hall, an academic activity center, an outdoor skate park, an indoor rock climbing wall, and various sports facilities.
The college was founded in 1911 as a one-year teacher training program and gradually grew into a four-year institution. In 1951, it relocated to the estate of telecommunications leader Theodore Newton Vail, which provided more space for campus expansion and development.
The campus reflects rural New England character, where nature and community life are closely woven together. Students use the outdoor spaces daily, and the buildings are arranged around a central courtyard that serves as a natural gathering place.
The campus is easy to explore on foot, with most attractions located nearby. The area has parking for visitors and accommodations nearby for those traveling from out of town.
The meteorology program at the college produced notable alumni like Jim Cantore, an established weather broadcaster. The daily student-produced newscast is one of just a few of its kind across the country.
