Dog Mountain, Art museum and dog park in St. Johnsbury, United States.
Dog Mountain is a 150-acre property in Vermont with trails, open fields, and ponds designed as both a dog park and art destination. The grounds feature a chapel, wooden sculptures, paintings, and stained glass installations spread throughout the landscape.
Folk artist Stephen Huneck founded Dog Mountain in 1995 and designed the chapel to look like a Vermont village church from the 1820s. The project grew from his personal devotion to dogs and his desire to create a place that honors both art and human connections with animals.
The chapel walls hold thousands of photographs and handwritten messages from visitors remembering their dogs who have passed away. This creates a shared space where people openly express their grief and honor the bonds they had with their companions.
The property opens Friday through Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM with no entrance fee required for all areas. Wear comfortable shoes since the terrain is hilly and involves walking through outdoor trails and fields.
The property features wooden sculptures and artworks specifically designed for dogs to interact with during their visit. Many installations allow dogs to touch, jump on, or walk through them, blending art appreciation with the dogs' natural instincts and movements.
