Gene Leahy Mall, Urban park in Downtown Omaha, US
Gene Leahy Mall is an urban park in downtown Omaha, stretching across several city blocks between the riverfront and the main business district. It features open lawns, walking paths, a pond, and a small waterfall.
The space opened in the 1970s under the name Central Park Mall and was built slightly below street level, giving it a sunken feel. It was fully redesigned and reopened around 2022, when the ground was raised to match the surrounding streets.
The park features a sculpture garden with installations that visitors encounter while walking through. These artworks shape how people experience and move through the space in their daily visits.
The park sits in the heart of downtown and can be entered from multiple streets, making it easy to pass through on foot between other stops. The flat, paved paths work well for people with strollers or mobility aids.
Two metal slides from the original 1970s park were kept when everything else was rebuilt, because generations of Omaha residents grew up using them. They still stand in the park today and remain open for use.
