Grove City College, Liberal arts college in Grove City, US
Grove City College is a liberal arts institution in Grove City, Pennsylvania, featuring academic buildings, residence halls, and Harbison Chapel on roughly 180 acres (73 hectares) of campus grounds. The buildings spread across a parklike setting with pathways connecting classrooms, libraries, athletic facilities, and common areas.
Isaac Ketler founded Pine Grove Normal Academy in 1876, which grew into the current institution while maintaining a focus on liberal arts and Christian values. After a 1984 Supreme Court case, the college separated from federal aid programs and has financed itself independently ever since.
Students gather in Harbison Chapel for daily worship services that remain part of campus life throughout each week. On weekends the chapel hosts weddings for former students and services for area church congregations that have used the building for decades.
Visitors can explore the chapel and outdoor areas of the campus, with access to buildings varying by academic calendar and events. Parking is available near main entrances, and the pathways across the grounds are mostly level and easy to walk.
The college refused federal funds since the 1970s to preserve its independence, long before a court case brought that decision into public view. Today students pay lower tuition than at comparable private institutions because of this policy, though without access to federal loans or grants.
