Wendell August Forge

Wendell August Forge is a metalworking workshop in Grove City where craftspeople create cast metal items by hand. The facility includes manufacturing areas, a retail shop, and places where visitors can watch artisans at work.

The company was founded in 1923 by Wendell McMinn August, a coal miner who turned his passion for metalworking into a production facility. In 1932, the workshop moved to Grove City and became known for its hand-hammered aluminum items.

The forge is a working place where traditional handcrafting techniques remain central to daily production. Visitors observe artisans using methods that have defined the workshop since its early years.

The workshop offers guided tours where visitors can follow the production process from start to finish. It is best to check current visiting times before arriving, as the facility may have limited hours on certain days.

A devastating fire in 2010 destroyed the original building, but firefighters managed to save the valuable production tools and dies. The workshop was able to reopen and resume work with remarkably little interruption.
