Jennings Environmental Education Center

Jennings Environmental Education Center is an environmental education facility within a state park covering about 300 acres in Pennsylvania. The grounds include prairie areas, forests, and Big Run creek, which flows through the entire property.

Native peoples inhabited the region approximately 15,000 years ago following glacial retreat and hunted large mammals across the landscape. The land was later developed as an educational facility to protect and study the natural ecosystems.

The center runs environmental education programs that bring students into direct contact with natural habitats and ecological systems. You will often see groups engaged in hands-on learning activities throughout the grounds.

The center is open daily from sunrise to sunset for visitors and offers trails throughout the property for exploration. It is advisable to bring weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes since you will be walking on natural paths through various habitats.

This location protects Pennsylvania's only public prairie ecosystem, which supports rare plants and the endangered massasauga rattlesnake. This particular habitat is exceptionally uncommon in North America and draws researchers and naturalists for study.
