Hamden High School, high school in Connecticut, United States
Hamden High School is a secondary school serving grades 9 through 12 located on Dixwell Avenue in Connecticut. The building showcases traditional Colonial Revival architecture with brick walls, numerous windows, and a distinctive clock tower topped with a shiny cupola.
The school was founded in 1935 and has remained part of the community ever since. It was redesigned over the decades with new wings added to form a square layout around the original structure, and it received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
The school carries green and gold colors and its students call themselves the Green Dragons. The murals painted on the lobby walls depict scenes from Hamden's history and help students connect with their town's past.
The campus spans about 25 acres and includes athletic facilities, art spaces, and classrooms serving all grade levels. It sits in a residential area with sidewalks and trees, making it accessible for students who walk to and from school or gather for after-school programs.
The most distinctive architectural feature is the clock tower with its shiny cupola, beneath which sits a small round window. On either side of the window are wide plaster banners shaped like the letter M, earning this part of the building the nickname MOM.
