East Rock Park

East Rock Park is an urban park in New Haven featuring hiking trails, sport fields, and an observation point that overlooks the city and Long Island Sound. The park covers approximately 425 acres and offers many ways to spend time outdoors.

The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places because of buildings and structures dating to the late 1800s. These structures reflect how the site developed as a community gathering place.

The Trowbridge Environmental Center within the park runs educational programs about local geology and natural systems throughout the year. These classes help visitors understand the landscape around them.

The park road is open from April through November daily and accessible during weekends and holidays in winter. Plan your visit to finish before sunset when the park closes.

The Giant Steps Trail takes visitors up a near-vertical climb to reach the summit. This challenging route offers a different view of the Connecticut landscape.
