Betts House, Second Empire mansion in New Haven, United States.
The Betts House stands as a three-story brick structure with a mansard roof, representing classical Second Empire architecture from the 1860s period.
Constructed in 1868 by architect Henry Austin, the building held the distinction of being the largest single-family residence in New Haven at that time.
The mansion transformed from a private residence to become home of the Culinary Institute of America from 1947 to 1972 before Yale University acquired it.
Located at 393 Prospect Street, the building now functions as the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization after a 13.5 million dollar renovation.
The building survived a substantial fire in 1990 that damaged the upper floors and interior, leading to preservation efforts that saved it from demolition.
