Yale University Observatory, Astronomical observatory at Yale University, Connecticut, US
The Yale University Observatory contains two Ash domes equipped with specialized telescopes, detectors, and an observation deck between the structures.
Founded in 1830, the observatory's first 5-inch Dollond telescope, donated by Sheldon Clark, stood as the largest telescope in the United States.
The facility maintains a digital planetarium theater with a Spitz SciDomeHD system that presents astronomical programs for students and local residents.
The observatory schedules outdoor telescope viewing sessions on Tuesday evenings during the academic year when weather conditions permit observation.
In 1835, astronomers Olmsted and Elias Loomis used the observatory's telescope to record the first American sighting of Halley's Comet.
