Yale University Collection of Musical Instruments
Yale University Collection of Musical Instruments, Musical instrument museum at Yale University, New Haven, United States
The Yale Collection of Musical Instruments exhibits over 1000 instruments, including keyboard instruments, string instruments, wind instruments, and percussion items from different periods.
Morris Steinert established the collection in 1900 by donating historic keyboard instruments to Yale University, which later expanded through Belle Skinner and Emil Herrmann collections.
The collection maintains permanent exhibitions of musical instruments from multiple centuries and regions, serving as a center for research and education.
Located in a Romanesque building on Hillhouse Avenue, the museum opens Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
The collection contains instruments dating back 2000 years, including a piano designed for thumb playing and an organ created by John Snetzler from London.
