Hayes State Park, State park on Wamplers Lake, Michigan.
Hayes State Park is a recreational area spanning more than 600 acres in Michigan's Irish Hills region. The grounds completely surround Round Lake and connect to Wamplers Lake via a channel that lets small boats travel between both lakes.
This place was founded in 1920 as Cedar Hill State Park and received its current name in 1930 when the Hayes family donated land with specific conditions. That change marked a turning point in how the area developed as a recreation destination.
This park serves as a gathering place where local families and visitors spend time together on and around the water. You will see how people in this region enjoy outdoor life, with boating and swimming woven into the rhythm of their leisure time.
The grounds offer year-round access to boat launches, swimming areas, fishing piers, and hiking trails. Visitors will also find camping spots and rental facilities, with the warmest months being best for swimming and boating activities.
A narrow channel connects the two lakes here, allowing small boats to travel from one lake to the other. This natural link makes the park special for boaters wanting to explore both bodies of water on the same day.
