Hidden Lake Gardens

Hidden Lake Gardens is a large garden area with marked paths, planted sections, and natural landscapes surrounding a lake in a rural setting. The property includes a conservatory, bonsai courtyard, and various specialized garden areas to explore.

A local businessman purchased land around Hidden Lake in 1926 and converted agricultural fields into a plant nursery operation. The property was later taken over by a university and developed into a public garden area.

Today visitors come to experience diverse plant collections and natural settings throughout the grounds. The place serves as a destination where people connect with plants and gardens in different ways.

The gardens are open during daylight hours Tuesday through Sunday and encourage walking through various sections. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as the grounds have varied terrain.

In a specialized section, hundreds of rare and dwarf cone-bearing trees grow as one of the most remarkable collections of their kind. These conifers show how gardens can preserve uncommon plants.
