Healy Block Residential Historic District, Historic residential district in south Minneapolis, United States.
Healy Block is a historic residential district containing 14 Queen Anne style homes arranged along Second and Third Avenue South between 31st and 32nd Streets. The houses stand in a unified grouping that displays consistent Victorian-era design principles throughout the collection.
Builder Theron Potter Healy constructed these homes between 1886 and 1898 during Minneapolis's rapid growth powered by streetcar connections along Nicollet Avenue. This building period coincided with the city's expansion into southern neighborhoods.
The homes display art glass windows and semicircular openings beneath the gables, reflecting late 19th-century design choices of the period. These decorative touches were typical of prosperous residential neighborhoods during that era.
The district is located in south Minneapolis and accessible via the Lake Street exit off Interstate 35W. Visitors can walk through the streets and view the exteriors of the homes at no charge.
This is the largest concentration of Queen Anne homes built by a single builder in Minneapolis, with each building retaining its own design elements. Despite being constructed close together in time, each house displays subtle differences showing how Healy mixed classical patterns with personal variations.
